Much more than a soda, Ramune is an institution in Japan. It’s a simple soft drink, a kind of lemonade. Except that the interest here is less in the liquid than in the bottle: a streamlined bottle with a glass ball in the neck, for a most surprising experience.

The game is to sip the lemonade and imagine that you can swallow the marble… when in fact you can’t! Children love it, and adults are happy to indulge in this playful thrill.

Inspired by Western soda, Ramune came to Japan when the country was reopened to foreigners during the Meiji era (late 19th century). Since then, it has been consumed during matsuri (traditional folk festivals) and even celebrated on May 4.

Here is Ramune in its lychee-flavored version, round and exotic!

How to use:

After school, as a gift for the uninitiated (or even the nostalgic), for fun, to scare yourself or simply to quench your thirst: there’s always an occasion to drink a Ramune.

Storage:

Store in a cool, dry and dark place. Consume immediately after opening.

Water, high fructose corn syrup, acidifiers (E330, E331), flavor enhancer E327, lychee flavor.
