Description
Nanko plums (often described as Japan’s finest variety) marinated in honey. A deep, complex and absolutely unique flavor. Umeboshi is a typical Japanese condiment. They have a delicate, fruity flavor and a strong umami. The acidity is present and the salty taste is pronounced, although these umeboshi (which are among the mildest) maintain a fine balance with only 8% salt.
Traditionally served on a bowl of rice, umeboshi form an orange dot on a white background – the Japanese flag. The benefits of these processed plums are numerous, so much so that they were once used to prevent or treat everyday ailments (fatigue, nausea, or constipation).
