Description

Like Kiyomi Rum, Teeda agricultural rum is made in Okinawa from local sugar cane juice by the Helios distillery. However, unlike Kiyomi, which is bottled unaged and unblended, Teeda is a blend of several vintages aged for 5 to 15 years in old bourbon barrels. It’s also completely pure: no added caramel here!

The vast experience of the Helios distillery and its proximity to the sea give Teeda a unique identity – a word that means “sun” in Okinawan, an endangered language. On the nose, iodine notes slip in between aromas of vanilla and sun-warmed wood. The length slides gently into ripe fruit, with apricot and cherry, before disappearing into a creamy finish.

Teeda 5 Year Old Rum, a unique character!

Teeda is a remarkable rum. In aroma and texture, it can’t be compared to the rums of the Caribbean, Africa or India… And certainly not with the white rums that have appeared all over Asia in recent years. Its unique character will appeal to connoisseurs. But also beginners will be convinced by its great smoothness. In short, Teeda is well worth the detour.

But why is the Okinawan language disappearing? The Ryūkyū archipelago, of which Okinawa is a part, had been an independent, peaceful kingdom for centuries when it was annexed by Japan in 1879 (this annexation can be seen as a trial gallop for the ultra-expansionist Japan of the first half of the twentieth century). Since then, Okinawan and almost all other local dialects have been slowly dying out in favor of Japanese. A little depressing history never hurts with your rum. Si?
