Description

Many Japanese green teas are of Chinese origin. Not hojicha: this green tea, gently roasted over charcoal in porcelain pots, originated in Japan. We didn’t expect its caramelized pecan flavor to pair so well with the freshness of Japanese cypress sap, but thanks to this combination, Komasa’s hojicha-infused gin strikes the perfect balance between chocolatey sweetness and lively botanicals…and even dares to add a nice little touch of iodine in the finish.

On tasting, it is clear that Komasa Hojicha is a gin of great expertise. And that’s not surprising: it’s distilled in Kyushu, the southern prefecture where Japanese gin was born, by a distillery that’s almost 150 years old, and to which we also owe the young and crazy Kanosuke whisky.

Not only is Kyushu full of delicious and more or less intimidating specialties like lotus root with miso and horsemeat sashimi, it is also famous for its shochu. These pure-tasting grain distillates are also available in our grocery store!
